2023 Battle of Bosworth Best of Vintage: 95/100 Gold

“60/40% shiraz/malbec. This is a non-prescriptive blend of some favourite barrels of the season. This does follow last year with a similar blend, though with a smidge (5%) more malbec. Meaty and intense, this is also so keenly balanced and structured, rippling with a savoury expression of forest berries, along with cured meat, violet, panforte, new leather, anise, salted chocolate and iron. It’s savoury, concentrated and built for the table. Very good”. Marcus Ellis

2022 Battle of Bosworth McLaren Vale Shiraz: 93/100 Silver

“This is the 22nd release of this wine, a cornerstone of this certified organic estate, which produces some of the best value wines, for the character and quality, in the Vale. Densley brambly red and black berries, a little boysenberry, anise and earth. There’s a rocky savoury quality to this, with a bit of agreeable tension – a vintage thing. It’s a serious bottle at a friendly tariff.” Marcus Ellis

2022 Battle of Bosworth McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon 93/100 Silver

“This is Vale cabernet in full flight, expansively fruitful and generous but also unerringly varietal and balanced. Crème de cassis, violet, cedar, currant, nori, lavender, black olive, the palate built on a certain generosity of fruit, though with trademark linear tannins and precise fruit delineation. The value at this address is quite a thing.” Marcus Ellis

2023 Battle of Bosworth Braden’s Shiraz: 94/100 Silver

“A single site, and a barrel selection. A remnant of the Scarce Earth program. For all the forays into other takes and other blends at this estate, this is regional shiraz played with a straight bat – with impeccable technique and timing, mind you. There’s good refinement, both through the red and cool black-fruited nose and the gentle scent of Indian spices, but there’s also depth and an underlying earthy intensity. It’s the ease and balance that are key here, the powerful harmony well judged.” Marcus Ellis

2023 Battle of Bosworth White Boar Shiraz: 93/100 Silver
(sold out, subscribe to be notified of our next release)

“Cordon-cut shiraz, left to desiccate for 10 days before picking. Alcohol is naturally an integral part of this wine, with the dehydration concentrating the sugar. Well, everything really, with this deeply, darkly fruitful. Black plums, cherries and berries, riffs of anise, leather, blackstrap molasses, panforte, the tannins tightly knit – they’ve been concentrated, too – the finish naturally breathy, but that’s part of the point. It’s a tough call to say a wine like this is fresh, but the fruit profile is pristine in its way.” Marcus Ellis

2023 Springs Road Wines Terre Napoleon Kangaroo Island Shiraz: 95/100 Gold
(subscribe to be notified of release)

“This is the heart of full-bodied shiraz from the region. Pepper, blood plum, blackberry roulade, subtle mint and basil, laced with sieved crushed gravel, broken earth and salumi nuance. A mouthful, yet poised and restrained, the tannins sinewy and generous but giving under the weight of blackberry fruit and savoury inflection. There is a gamey bacon note, all lustrous under the surface. An exhilarating prospect for future ageing. Tremendously delicious.” Katrina Butler

2024 Springs Road Wines Little Island Red: 93/100 Silver

“The deep purple garnet hues in the glass and far-reaching blueberry and blood plum aromatics make for an enticing tipple primed for the mid-week. This drinks well above its price point with glossy blue and black fruit and gentle spice, clove, pepper and juniper berry lift. Enjoys a decant, which relaxes its tannic tension, softening and opening up the breadth of its offering. A truly enjoyable, shiraz-dominant red blend.” Katrina Butler
